 (i) What is the underlying theme of the poem "Toba Tek Singh" ? [FM-5]

Ans. :  The poem " Toba Tek Singh" is written by Gulzar . The poem is thematically very affluent in the full sense of the term . The main theme of this poem is the trauma and horror of the 1947 India-Pakistan Partition . They expose utter absurdity , mindlessness and tragic endings of millions of destitute like Afzal's friends Lahna Singh , Wadhwa Singh , and Bheen Amrit enunciated in the fourth stanza of this poem . Not only that , the theme of sparking bloodbath is also evident to the core of the poem as has been mentioned that all three of them are violently butchered as well as looting their luggages . These types of occurrences happen partly due to the ruthlessness of bully-people and partly because of breaking the heart of India into pieces forcing people to relocate . This is why , the poet hears Bishan say - " India and Pakistan go to the bloody hell ".
