Ans. : Sadat Hasan Manto's "Toba Tek Singh" is a work of great excellence mainly based on Partition literature . The end of the story is , in the full sense of the term , pitiful , heart-rending and partly tragic also . Talking about the text , when the date of the exchange of the inmates of lunatic asylum came as a result of the 1947 India-Pakistan partition , Bishan Singh , the main character in the story , became more confused with the actual placement of his hometown Toba Tek Singh - in India or in Pakistan . Eventually , he learned from an officer that his hometown fell in Pakistan . Because of being a Sikh , he was called to register in India , but he didn't budge a little . He became frustrated along with being more stubborn . So , he was kept uncare at Wagah border alone . With the arrival of dawn , he saw that he was neither in Pakistan nor in India , instead on the newly drawn border line and there were barbed wires on both sides . Because he was a Sikh , he was not allowed to set foot in Pakistan . He immediately collapsed on the ground . Thus , the story has been terminated in a pathetic way throwing light on the terrific violence .
