Or,
Give reasons for the "the madness" used as a metaphor .
Ans. : In " Toba Tek Singh '', published in 1955 , Sadat Hasan Manto tangibly depicts "the madness" not just in a symbolic way but in a metaphorical way also . The story has been set in a lunatic asylum where people of different castes and cultures who have gone totally mad and partially mad stay under treatment . The story also focuses on how those people have to suffer and have been traumatized and relocated to their respective regions and are dislocated on account of the 1947 Partition of India-Pakistan . Shockingly , the mad inmates realise the division of their country , as well as realising how they are forced out of their hearths and homes . A lunatic says :" I wish to live neither in India nor in Pakistan . I wish to live in this tree ". Bishan Singh babbles :'' India and Pakistan go to the bloody-hell ". Thus , it can not be gainsaid that the writer is able to quench his thirst through criticizing the India dividing policy by using a madhouse or madness in this story in a symbolic and partly metaphorical way . The lunatic asylum becomes a microcosm of the divided nation .
